Wonderful Authentic Mediterranean food in Ladysmith

While we were driving past Ladysmith on our way to Victoria last weekend Pamela spotted a new little restaurant, right on the main highway, next to Ladysmith City Hall.   Yesterday we thought we'd try it out, and we were blown away.

The Transfer Beach Grill is pretty small - maybe half a dozen small tables - but immediately inviting - cozy, homey, comfortable.  When we arrived there was a small lineup, which let us know that we might be on to something.   Indeed, the place is pretty well known to the locals since the owner George and his wife have been running the Transfer Beach concession for years. The restaurant is a new venture - it actually opened less than two weeks ago. Obviously, it's been a while in the planning, and the result is superb.

The sign outside says something about authentic Mediterranean food and localvores, and that's what you get - the menu is uncomplicated, the food is absolutely fresh and perfectly simple.  Pamela ordered halibut, I ordered salmon and a greek salad - the fish was cooked absolutely perfectly, and the greek salad was a a sensory experience - just fresh local tomatoes, cucumbers, and onions, some really memorable olives, and just the right amount of creamy, crumbly goat feta.

Definitely our new favourite.  Worth a special trip.
